Families and Kids...

It is great to see the families react to the banners. This family just pulled their chairs up next to the banners and sat back to enjoy the kite flying.  It was a kite festival in Topeka, Kansas, done to support American Diabetes. We encourage people to walk among the banners and be a part of them.

Young children really know how to enjoy them. They'll put their arms out and run among the banners, playing tag with the edges. Some kids just love to run through the banners, weaving in and out as they go. Look at the little girl running among the sunset banners She'd run from one end to the other, oblivious to others and just having a great time. Then she would start it all over again.

These two seem to be saying, "Tag, you're it!"

Some of the time we have hollow tubes flying from the top of the poles or wiggling on the ground. They fill with the wind and the tips often play with the ground. Kids have a great time playing their own made-up game of dodge the tube.

Commonly, families and friends will back up to a set of banners and have their pictures taken. Look at Mom and Dad standing in between the Monarch butterfly banner set. Dad is talking with his son, "See the camera? Smile."

Some have taken their banners camping with them. This couple camped out in the northern New Mexico mountains. They're sharing a special treat with friends.

Others have taken their banners with them to the beach and "established their territory."

I love the people who walk though the banners and have a hard time deciding which one they like the best. They feel the gentle breeze, bright colors and fluttering banners. It is more than a viewing -- it's an experience.  If you ever stop by one of our displays, come up and tell me, "Hey, Carveth, I really like that one!"
